L-Theanine (eltheanine@the.teabag.ninja)'s status on Sunday, 01-Sep-2024 23:31:52 JST L-Theanine Why does #nostr feel like a bunch of individual app platforms all vying to keep you on their app and use their Lightening Network thing... oh right. Follow the money, I guess.
It all feels very "See it's all open and free but just sign up here and log into this, and connect this and then you can do all the things!"
Nostr needs someone like @grunfink@comam.es to write an easy to self-host platform/app for it, and a Lightening wallet to suit. But I'd actually rather just see napcop in the wild first I reckon.
Anyway, at least here I can self host something and it just works. Maybe that just shows ActivityPub's age/maturity.
And maybe I'm just looking at it wrong. Nostr seems like it had/has great potential, even if crypto-bros seem to have taken it over.-

What is the advantage of this protocol? It looks like ActivityPub but with slightly different property names

silverpill (silverpill@mitra.social)'s status on Monday, 02-Sep-2024 01:10:16 JST silverpill @grunfink I think you can achieve that with ActivityPub too. Servers can pull from outboxes (and other collections) instead of pushing to inboxes. I can find only one protocol feature that can't be implemented without breaking compatibility with existing software: generation of a post without wrapping it into Create activity. AFAIK it's against the spec.

The Real Grunfink (grunfink@comam.es)'s status on Monday, 02-Sep-2024 01:10:18 JST The Real Grunfink It's a work in progress, basically a brainstorm of ideas. It's very much like ActivityPub, but very simplified. Basically, it tries to minimize the network traffic and favour caching between servers.
