     @raindrops_and_roses the best way to discover new peoplebis by browsing or following hashtags for topics that interest you.

     Then, follow people who specifically discuss those topics and interact with them.

     For me, I talk about Fedi a LOT. I'm very passionate about this place, so I browse the Fediverse and mastodon hashtags vigorously and have follow relationships with a lot of the devs and leaders in this space.

     It's not as easy as corporate platforms. It takes work to build a feed you like and can interact with the people on your feed. I've been here for about a year now and have been fortunate, I feel.

     Also, lists. If you end up following a lot of people like me, putting people into lists based on the topics they discuss, has helped me organize.

     @BeAware Thanks for these tips. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply so thoughtfully.

     It has been hard even to figure out which hashtags to follow, etc. I think it's been nearly 8 months for me now.

     Great to know you're interested in Fedi. It's an interest of mine too.

     On lists - is there a way to see which accounts I've put on lists? I have lists but I can't remember which accounts are on there now!

     @raindrops_and_roses open the list, hit the 3 lines for settings in the top right, then hit "edit list".

     That will show you who's in the list.

     You have to do that for each list individually.

     For finding hashtags to use, I always go with the easiest option. For Knitting, simply add a hashtag. Gaming, GamingNews, Fedi, Fediverse, Mastodon, AskFedi, are ones I browse regularly and are easily seen which topics they discuss. Keep it stupid simple.
