     They don't just want _control_ of social media and messaging companies, they want to end anonymity on the Internet. And you see some of these idiots in the fake-right-left like Brent Weinstine and Jordan Peterson advocating for removing anonymity, believing it will lead to a better situation.
     
     There are useful idiots who are pushing for adult verification for porn sites. What happened to parents being responsible for instilling their values in their children or leading by example. UK style ID verification for all ISP is the first of many steps that will eventually come after fediverse sites like ours.
     
     Imagine not being able to run any minor community, like a car forum or message board, without tying every single user to their government issued identity. That's what the leaders in every country want.

     So where was he with his French Passport? Russia? Couldn't he have just tried to meet Putin in Russia instead of traveling to France?

     And why keep the French passport if he is a refugee from Europe.

     Perhaps he got tired of running. Sometimes enough is enough.

     Pavel Durov left Russia when the government tried to control his social media company, Telegram.

     That’s why he got the French passport.

     About a week ago they, Putin and Durov, were in Azerbaijan.

     Sometimes I'm to lazy to check things on my own. This is one of those days and I'm thankful to mastodon helping me out.

     I'm kind of disappointed that it seems like all government wants to control all social media.

     Not surprised. Just disappointed.

     Exactly, his miscalculation, after all he is a Russian.

     He had avoided traveling to Europe for a long time, according to the newspaper, one of the investigators was surprised that Durov, knowing he was wanted in France, still chose to come to Paris. Another source close to the case suggested that Durov's decision was driven by a "sense of impunity."

     Control of distribution network.

     There are 2 ways of controlling. Indirect and direct. Indirect control would be to promote those with the "right values" and let them do the job. Throw money at the artists who follow the flow of zero resistance.

     There is a type who always comes for the gravy train.

     But if you still loose control or that isn't enough. You can always let go of the illusion and take direct control.

     They're going to do it by controlling the distribution networks.
