So yeah, if Switch 2 starting production is true, that means that reveal is imminent
The Tokyo Game Show is at the end of September, so a reveal before that so companies can announce their stuff for Switch 2 would make sense

@why IMO the Switch already stretched it
The Steam Deck is not THAT popular, and the ROG and co are expensive and ultra enthusiasts devices. Besides, Nintendo really did it right with the Switch carts and them actually coming functional at launch, the collector's market is rather dead on the other consoles
So yeah, compared to the PS4 > PS5 apathy some people have, I don't see it for Switch. I feel like it's really about time to be upgrade and we're currently increasingly missing out of games because of that, some games which will probably get a late port and will have the excitement again of having a portable version available

literally "this might affect trout population" kind of out-of-touchness.
>I feel like it's really about time to be upgrade
Knowing nintendo it's gonna be either another gimmicky shit or just a rehash or both, al-la 3DS and DSi

@why Sure
Although, I've been schooled in the past for saying Switch 1 had a bad first year. For what Nintendo themselves released, it actually wasn't that bad, it was actually good, it's just unfortunately mostly stuff I wasn't very much interested in
As for Mario Kart, seriously I think I'm just done with the series anyways, it needs a serious single player update. As for Smash Bros, I would assume they would train the new teams on new DLCs (Which, I also assume selling a new version with all the stuff included is possibly going to be an issue because of licenses), which will probably come with a Switch 2 performance patch so you can have like 4 more players at once or something stupid
There's already a Fire Emblem 4 remake leaked, along with WW and TP ports that's apparently been ready for ages

@coolboymew i can see them not fumbling the games in a vacuum, but i can't imagine the massive popularity and sales numbers following over to a second system. they need to find a VERY compelling reason to get millions of satisfied switch owners to upgrade.

@why This could be potentially crazy. They're not coming from really weird wonky 3rd party support like all the other times, like the N64, DS, 3DS, GC, Wii and blah blah blah, you get the picture. On top of potentially getting very late ports, not so late ports, ports of stuff that's releasing soon, the usual Nintendo games, the weird launch titles (if any?), etc. this could be one of the best launch year in a long ass while. I recall most launch years since the PS3 and up just all kinda sucked, on top of the big current apathy for the PS5 where people are just not upgrading because there's still plenty of PS4 compatible games around

@coolboymew i think nintendo is very capable of being tone deaf and fumble a console release.
could they not do the PS5 thing? like they know everyone has their big library, and think they can count on the first year being light because "hey you already have your old games they look better on the new $400 tablet".
idk, i just can't see how retreading switch 1 would make sense now that we have context and access to the previous library. besides new IP (remember Arms) what can they do?
-mario kart 9, this time with less tracks and less characters and new gimmick
-smash bros 6, this time with less characters and no sakurai
-3d mario, the same as odyssey but fans arent starved for sandbox style anymore
-splatoon 4, identical to 3
-fire emblem 18, identical to 17
-zelda botw 3 (coming 2030)
-port of wii u game ("why wasnt this on switch 1?")
-port of wii u port of gamecube game ("why didnt you release this earlier?")
proofreading this post i feel like im contradicting myself 5 times and dont really have a point. my point is basically so realistically sort of kind of like if maybe its like just sometimes i dont think

@hj @coolboymew @why Maybe if the two main competitors didn't suck out loud (if you want to talk consumer-hostile we can talk Microsoft, too) this wouldn't be a major concern

@hj @coolboymew @why It won't happen. Right now it's like the tech industry, a bunch of sick men on the top consuming everything they can see in hopes that someone else's ideas will stop the bleeding (spoiler: they won't). The amount of nostalgia for the 360-era Xbox Live means someone is going to have a good opportunity to try to fill that void, but I don't trust any of the three console makers to, and Nintendo and their begrudging attitude towards online play the least of the three.
