   Techno-optimism is dead, Pajeets are largely to blame but it doesn't help matters that a good deal of CEOs think offering shitty new features that no one wants is a good strategy to corner their respective markets. People just want things to work at the end of the day, and lately they just haven't.

     @PraxisOfEvil @mackya I switched to iphone over a year ago from android and I had difficulty but I recently had to buy an android tablet for a project and holy fucking shit Android is so pathetically bad compared to IOS.

     @PraxisOfEvil It only makes matters worse that every "AI" learning model is literally just a brute-force model of processing. Want to generate a silly picture from a prompt? Here, just use 100x more processing power in this black box learning model that will never be streamlined, we can always just have NVDA make a new series of 100kUSD chips to power through it, wtf is a kwh anyway?

     @PraxisOfEvil My 1060 in my old PC is still running strong, if modern drivers didn't slow down my PC (intentionally?) on modeling software, I wouldn't have even updated to the 40xx series. Even in modeling software it looks exactly the same as 10 years ago, only now it's more resource intensive too 🤔

     @Marshall1Banana I spent $2K on a computer in 2017 and only recently have I had issues with compatability with new games, idc though I'll play older shit, there hasn't been anything in the last decade that looks truly next gen anyway

     Also these advancements in processing power allow you to query neural networks with a relative fast speed, but they do not allow you to train neural network efficiently yet.

     @SuperDicq @PraxisOfEvil @Marshall1Banana I think Coral TPU does accelerate both training and inference because it is a dev device, yeah on the phones I think it only accelerates inference. I got a free Coral device several years ago by participating in a Google training session but it died and they discontinued it or something and I couldn't get another.

     @PraxisOfEvil I haven't been optimistic about anything technology related since 2013 or so. I tried to find a device without a rechargeable battery that just worked from AC power and couldn't because of the acceleration between stupid consumers and chinkpajeet tech.

     In my eyes Android - like many google things - has peaked a few years ago.
     Features that hurt googles monetization get dropped, others get moved into the goggle services framework.
