    Carol Cadwalladr is a hero. She is the reporter that at grave personal risk broke the Cambridge Analytica story. When she raises an alarm about this election we had better pay attention.

    "If Musk chooses to “predict” a civil war in the States, what will that look like? If he chooses to contest an election result? If he decides that democracy is over-rated? This isn’t sci-fi. It’s literally three months away."

      @aguleb
      Unfortunately I think it’s an automated thing, where the kamalaharrisforpresidentnews tag is included when you reply, which means it goes to everyone in the group. I’m hoping they follow through after the poll taken, and stop boosting all replies. People don’t need to see all this, but I know I’m often guilty of forgetting to untag others when I reply.

      @lucybeahere @aguleb We are working on new software to give us more control over reply moderation. Stay tuned...and report any off topic or harassing accounts to me for moderation. We have already blocked over 80 of them.

      She is certainly one of my heroes. Her TED talk is very much worth the 20 minutes.

      @grant_h @mastodonmigration @kamalaharrisforpresidentnews I'm not sure anybody, anywhere has ever had a free democratic election at the level of national (or even provincial) politics.

      Political parties undermine and invert democracy. Their systems for generating candidates (e.g. "conventions" in Canada) are explicitly there to make sure that the general public has little to no say in who will "represent" them.

      AFAIC if you have one or more political parties you lack democracy.

      @zdl @grant_h @mastodonmigration I have a lifehack for you: Become a party member and have your say. Alternatively open up your own party and do whatever you like.

      Seriously, this is how representative democracy works. Get involved and don't whine.

      @kamalaharrisforpresidentnews Are you trying to subvert the Democratic convention or why are you boosting this?
