@losttourist @organicmaps @fdroidorg the F-Droid version is lacking play location services integration though, making positioning slower and more battery intensive.
(Just to put that out there, that switching to the F-Droid version might not be in everyone's interest)

That is a feature and not a bug.
It's stupidity to just hand over your exact location to google when it can be possible to have somewhat private positioning at the small cost of a slightly slower GPS-lock and a bit more battery life (not much arguably, as that GPS chip cannot be switched off - only asked to go into a low-power code).
@losttourist @organicmaps @fdroidorg As far as I can tell, the version of organic maps downloadable from github is proprietary software (what a surprise), while old versions of organic maps that haven't been compiled with proprietary software are free; https://f-droid.org/en/packages/app.organicmaps/
