@MK2boogaloo
You don't need the GPU, actually, people were rendering graphics on z80 just fine, surely your AMD64 rig can too.

There should be something from the motherboard, if the old card works then I dunno

@syzygy nothing? I have an older GPU which works flawlessly.

Could try to narrowing it down, so if you get rid of the card what does it do?

@syzygy okay kitten, put your ears because daddy is going to simplify it to you.
I bought a GPU, tried it on my Arch PC. It works for a couple of days but then it stopped working. I tried fixing it but it just won't work, when I installed it I had to use VGA display on my motherboard. So I thought this must be a BIOS problem, then I bought a new motherboard. I installed it in, Arch doesn't work because grub is fucked somehow. I tried it with my GPU too and it won't boot.

@syzygy can't, my Arch is fucked for now because of the Grub.

So is there any display from the motherboard's VGA?
-
Embed this notice
@syzygy yes, like last time I can use Arch just fine.
-
Embed this notice
@syzygy the thing is, the display doesn't work at all. It won't even go to BIOS, I have to use the VGA port in the motherboard just to get in.
-

@syzygy yes, spinning as usual.

@MK2boogaloo
Does the card come up if you run lspci?

@MK2boogaloo
Do the fans go spinny and like it has power?
-

@lina @MK2boogaloo
Yeah, I was thinking that but he's saying there's no display from the motherboard with the new card (there should be), I'm thinkin' it might also be PEBKAC

@lina @MK2boogaloo @syzygy feels like a driver issue. if the old card is different architecture it could be simply a matter of loading kernel-module or trying to run some strange amd thingy. although about of the box rx5xx cards i've had in the past work on some really old linux kernel versions. 🤔

@lina @MK2boogaloo @syzygy if the GPU doesn't have a video signal even while booting, it's not a driver problem. Either the GPU is fucked, or the Motherboard slot is fucked.
But he already tried with another MB, and the other GPU works fine, so this GPU might be fucked.
What I would try would be another PSU. Sure, the GPU may not need a six pin power connector, but maybe the PSU is not delivering enough power for the RX560, but is delivering enough power for the other GPU.
If that also doesn't work, then I'm sorry, but the 560 is dead.

@berkberkman @lina @MK2boogaloo @syzygy but why would the display decide to work with an older GPU and not with a newer one?

@Suzu @berkberkman @MK2boogaloo @syzygy more importantly, why would kero have a monitor with firmware
-

@Suzu @lina @MK2boogaloo @syzygy Could the monitor itself be borked? Some of them have firmware now.

@berkberkman @MK2boogaloo @syzygy @Suzu do g-sync monitors even exist in indonesia

@lina @MK2boogaloo @syzygy @Suzu If there's NVIDIA GPUs available to buy in Indonesia, there has to be G-SYNC monitors there too (although most of them are just FreeSync + G-SYNC compatible).

@lina @berkberkman @MK2boogaloo @syzygy on the other hand, Nvidia support for Linux sucks ass.
I have a 3070, and my life would be way easier if I had the equivalent AMD card.
