@inthehands @JessTheUnstill @dgoldsmith it's because there's basically zero cost to being bad at employing people. Capital will flow to any established enterprise, no matter how dysfunctional it is. Capital will starve or subvert any upstart firm could challenge the dominance of the incumbents. Commodified housing means hardly anyone can just leave the labor market, and labor is so thoroughly tamed that tech cos spent the last year literally decimating their workforces with no push back.
Whether or not it is a conscious process, or rather articulated with full understanding...who was it that said, "What the machine does is its purpose."?
