     @Eric well, mastodon works specifically by follow relationships, so by default you'll only see accounts from those you follow and those that are boosted.

     You can add relays to get some sort of "firehose" of content, but searching a user by direct link or post link usually "pulls" the user or content to the instance. However, for some reason that's not working for you. I'm not certain why that could be....😬

     @BeAware Maybe it's something wrong with my peertube instance then? but you said you could find it without issue. When I search for anything though I only see stuff from folks I follow. Not from the global mastodon federated pool.

     How do I enable that?

     @jesu @Eric can they? Every time I see something about pleroma instances, you have to add /actor to the end. So it's not as simple as adding the instance domain, is it?🤔

     Either way, he's on mastodon, would it be cross compatible?

     @Eric those aren't relays. Those are actual instances.

     Relays are a different kind of software that have different kind of URLs.

     https://relaylist.com/ is a good site for relays.

     Also https://relay.fedi.buzz but if you use the "instance" version of this, be careful, you can easily overload your instance. I wouldn't add mastodon.social for example.

     Hope this makes sense.

     I'm sure there's plenty of Mastodon specific relays Eric can use, as it seems it's probably not viable for Pleroma ones to work right now.

     There's a closed issue referencing signatures as a possible issue with the relays. I tried to view the PR on https://git.pleroma.social/pleroma/relay/-/merge_requests/23. but the link appears to be down for me. This is the issue on github https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/14961

     @exerra you say it's not that hard with docker, but the funny thing is, every time i've gotten someone to help me with linux stuff, they say 'i've never used docker, we're doing systemd'. 🤣 but i'm sure i could figure out docker if i really wanted to run a relay.

     As you said though, no niche to occupy for me either. There's already many relays and there's a bit more responsibility than i'd want to handle with the kind of instances that pop up all the time. 😬 🤦♂️

     @BeAware@social.beaware.live @jesu@pl.kotobank.ch @Eric@mastodon.seceric.io I've thought about running a relay but (a) no financial incentive and (b) no niche to occupy.
     
     Back when I ran a Latvian instance I thought about making an LV relay but then there were like 4 LV instances (incl. mine) and basically only one wasn't de jure or de facto single-user, so no real point in that.
     
     P.S. it's not that hard with docker

     @Eric you're adding the Pleroma versions of the relays as we were discussing above.

     Pleroma relays end in /actor. Mastodon relays *usually* end in /inbox with only some exceptions like relay.fedi.buzz which isn't technically a real relay.
