Since when is it ok to charge a surcharge when you pay by credit card? Just got my bill from Toyota for a major maintenance service and am advised they are now charging a 3% surcharge for credit card payments. Not cash or debit, just credit card. Just started this last month. When I called, they said , “this came down from corporate.” How is this even legal? #creditcards #surchargesoncredit

And at one time, VISA and Mastercard prohibited the practice as part of merchant agreements (they don't want buying via CC to be more expensive), but they may have dropped that requirement.
