     @nyx @anemone @arcana @mischievoustomato @meso n=1 but it was basically obscene luck that I ended up where I did, if my parents lived just a minute south of where they are they would have ended up on the Indiana side of the border and I would have been stuck there with no plausible way out instead of being able to live a tenuous life in Detroit

     @allison @anemone @arcana @mischievoustomato @meso similar for me, and this is talking about moving within the country. leaving the country takes a lot of money on top of a ton of other considerations and it's just not realistic that I'll ever be able to do that, even if I wanted to which I'm not sure that I do because it's not like the problems I have with the US are unique to it so much as they're a global trend pretty much everywhere in the world and will continue to go in that direction
