> Many added safety and verification features
What safety features do you even need to call a cab? None that really matter.
> shows where the vehicle is and when it will arrive
Don't care much about the first one, the second one might matter if you're not in town where the cab may be far away, but it's definitely not worth your freedom.
> can hook it up to your credit cards for easy payment rather than having a bunch of cash on hand
You can imagine that someone that would refuse to use a smartphone would not care about the false convenience of paying via credit or debit card, and they'd pay for stuff in cash if there's always a choice, besides you can pay after reaching destination, not before, there's no made-up danger here.
> There’s a lot of reasons it’s super convenient
None of the reasons you listed seem "super convenient", rather a false mirage. And the big problem is them pushing for a scenario where you're not left with a choice to not rely on software to get a trip on a cab. If you're comfortable with your NPCesque solution go for it, but that shouldn't be the only choice available.
The year is 2027, the cap company wants you to snoop onto your other social and customer accounts, go grab the deal, they'll give you one month of Netflix subscription.
