   I saw a post on here the other day that had 1 like and two boosts and the author replied to themselves saying "so this is what it's like have a viral post." Confused, I decided to open the post in a browser where I'm not signed in. Apparently, the post ACTUALLY had over 1,200 boosts.

   I feel like this is something the #Mastodon folks should probably fix at some point. I mean, fix the racism stuff first. But then fix this.

     I'm a Mechanical Engineer, not a programmer, but the OG post knows how many comments, likes, and retweets it has, right?
     
     Like, you can't comment on a post without the original poster seeing it, right? Can the post keep track of how many various interactions it has, and report those numbers along with the content itself when a server requests the post?
     
     Can the post's server tell the requesting server how many interactions the post has, so you can at least see the total number of replies even if you can't see all of them?

     @NaClKnight @Karstan that is a good question.

     Seems like it theoretically should be possible. However, I don't know enough to give you a solid answer. Maybe someone with direct AP knowledge can chime in.

     I can only say how it currently works and why, not what could be possible as I am not a programmer either.

     @BeAware @NaClKnight If I can open the link to the post in a browser in which I'm not signed in and see the true number of likes and boosts, then it should absolutely be possible. Simple even. That data is right there.
