    Do you know anyone who works in a press office?

    Ask them "Why do so many press offices give their exclusives to X? Why not post to X on, like, a 6 hour time delay (or not at all... though this might be too much for them)"

    We gotta stop news from "breaking" on there. Break it on blueSky, break it on tumblr I don't even care (though really break it here please and thank u)

      When I see news breaking on X I look down on the org (news or not) breaking it. I JUDGE you unworthy.

      @EverydayMoggie @futurebird @nazokiyoubinbou The wild and welcome success of Login.gov says that such a thing is very much possible. It’s just, you know, work

      (Over the years I’ve been involved in work that was tangential to various .gov software efforts like the healthcare.gov recovery so)

      @kevinriggle @EverydayMoggie @futurebird @nazokiyoubinbou Ironically many government agencies are on #Threads, although they do not share to the #Fediverse yet.

      It's not really necessary for each agency or government entity to run its own server. There could be a shared service that specialized in doing that for them. Government things do have an additional layer of requirements that private ones don't have, though. Maybe that makes it less simple.

      Heck. The NYPL has an excellent app. (search books, even check out audiobooks on your phone) I don't see how public agencies and services that can make apps that work can't also run a little instance and post their press releases like adults.

      They already have staff for this at the big cities and agencies. They have tech staff to and can hire more if needed.

      It ain't that deep.

      @nazokiyoubinbou @futurebird …yeah uh you may not have used any government web sites recently but they’re already struggling to keep something only slightly more advanced than static HTML or basically 90’s web CMS tech online, maybe don’t expect them to run a terrible Rails app as part of a distributed system that is trying to make some kind of liveness guarantees

      @kevinriggle @futurebird Or maybe do.

      That isn't an excuse for why they shouldn't be more modern. That's a reason why they should be more modern.

      PS. I positively *ABHOR* arguments of "first fix x before y should be allowed to exist." x will never be fixed 100% to everyone's complete satisfaction. No progress can ever be made this way.

      @futurebird The really stupid thing is the Fediverse handily solves the problem in a universal way. It isn't 100% perfect in some ways, but for things like news/etc it pretty much solves their fundamental problems. All they have to do is host their own instances and presto, they can work across anything that can access those instances. It's not so different from hosting websites (which they already do.)

      There is literally no excuse that government services don't do this too.
