    So, it would be fine to mount a short depth UPS in a wall mounted two post rack if I use rails bolted into the wall, right?

      @jbaggs I'm looking at a 3U UPS that weighs about 30kg.

      The rack is rated for 90kg:

      @aschmitz The manual for the UPS says to mount it from the middle if you're using a 2 post rack, but I think that's assuming a telco rack.

      I'm probably also going to mount a 2U drawer below it for stability or something.

      @ryanc Sure, especially if it's made for that. I have a medium-depth one and it only mounts via two front ears anyway.

      @jbaggs Sealed lead acid batteries tend not to catch fire, so it's probably fine? Though I'm considering LiFePO4 batteries.

      Already have a 10kWh LiFePO4 battery in the garage...

      @ryanc Eh, yeah, not the worst idea. Really it's just a question of whether the mounts would shear off, but if the front is flimsy or whatever, then it could happen. (Unlikely though.)

      @aschmitz Well, I figure if I bolt the rack rails into the wall it should be fine.

      @jbaggs That's the idea. Ceiling mounted APs throughout the house, ethernet jacks in most rooms, and single mode fiber to the outbuildings.

      @jbaggs I have a US licence but it doesn't do me much good in the UK. I have already had a friend ask to set up some kit at my house though.

      It's mostly that

      1. I don't want to ever have to think about ground loops.
      2. I don't ever want to have to upgrade the cables.

      Six pairs of single mode should handle terabit ethernet just fine.

      @jbaggs I'm going to set up an ADS-B feed so I can get a free upgraded account with flightaware, and run a stratum 1 NTP server using a GPS source.

      @jbaggs Given that I have gigabit fiber, I might actually make the NTP server public.

      @jbaggs I think all my sokeris gear went to ewaste a long time ago. Actually kind of annoyed about the ones that had 802.11g cards with 900MHz transverters in them. My CTF team used them to link the contest floor to our hotel room at DEFCON a couple years.
