     @realcaseyrollins one of the things that buttfucked starcraft 2 (and to a lesser extent overwatch) is blizzard made them from day one really wanting them to be esports.
     
     even to the point they fucked over LAN parties in the attempt to retain death grip control of all possible earnings from the game

     @realcaseyrollins from what i remember some of the design choices were also made to appease the competitives in the testing group. (the designers wanted to remove some of the APM-heavy stuff, which most people hated, but became a KPI in the competitive scene.)
     
     contrast to say smash bros which has largely always had the opinion that competitive play can fuck off the game is not designed for them at all
