     @cell same with russia. a lot of people still genuinely think we're like a lax north korea. they get amazed when they see our prices and that it's not snow 24/7/365 over here, yet it's the same latitude as Glasgow - and the climate is almost the same, albeit less humid for obvious reasons.

     @rin @kaia @lanodan alot of my (local) gay friends go to thailand and of course between us it’s pretty obvious what they’re heading up north for
     
     that being said, access to things like PREP is so much more affordable there; here you have to pay full big pharma prices 💀💀💀

     @cell @lanodan The stereotype is that there are lots of poor people that can easily be exploited (for sex), so Europeans who go to Thailand are often viewed very badly.
     
     In France we had a gay politician called Frédéric Mitterrand (nephew of president François Mitterrand) who wrote in his autobiography that he went to Bangkok to pay for sex with boys, and he found that hot because he knew they were so poor they could not refuse the money. It was a huge scandal, so he publicly said he never slept with underage boys.

     Went there for a week and a half with my wife and mom-in-law. Wonderful place, and we want to go back. The food was divine. One of our tourmates was not such a fan, amusingly, but Thai food is basically comfort food for me/my wife.
