      @lain doesn't your AC do that? why do you need a separate dehumidifier?

      That seems like a shit-ton, is it muggy where you are? What kind of dehumidifier do you use ?

      @lain @kaia Very dumb question, but why is dehumidifying a thing when people buy humidifiers? Like... if it is bad to have humid air why would anyone buy one of those and why would anyone dehumidify the air instead of humidify it?

      I'm sleepy and my brain won't work.

      @cjd @kaia a compressor one. humidity varies a lot, sometimes i need a humidifier, sometimes a dehumidifier.

      @susie @kaia it's not necessarily better. humidity is best in a certain window, depending on the temperature. so there are cases where it makes sense to sometimes use a humidifier and sometimes a dehumidifier

      @kaia @susie @lain also for tropics, humid air just feels hotter (sweat cannot evaporate and just gets nasty and sticky, and just in general the air can hold more heat)

      Okay, I can see why you say an air conditioner is not that effective. I can't see anything beating an air compressor.

      @lain @kaia Yeah, that makes sense. At my old gym the humidity occasionally hit 99% (basically the meter ran out of scale) and the walls started to sweat lol It just felt a bit hot to me rather than awful. But makes sense that's not good for the building.

      So basically: dehumidify to preserve the building and humidify to preserve yourself lol

      My sister used to get nosebleeds a lot as a kid. We had a humidifier in her room to help prevent them. The rest of the house was not air conditioned (beyond a window unit).

      @susie @kaia @lain some people can't handle dry air, say like at high altitudes. They may become prone to nose bleeds, cracking lips, etc.
      Meanwhile in Korea during the summer it's so humid the walls almost sweat. In my barracks at the time the 4th floor (where I lived) had no AC. It was constantly hot and humid to the point our furniture had mold growing
