I think free software is a political movement
you're saying everyone should be able to use, analyze, learn from and contribute without restrictions
that's a very strong policy that's in contrast with the rest of the world

@iro_miya@mk.absturztau.be @tthbaltazar@chaos.social I am very sure that the term copyleft does not refer to the political left.
It is simply a humorous way to oppose copyright.
@tthbaltazar@chaos.social actually I can't find the source for this claim anymore, I remember reading it but now I can't find it so I'm not sure ;-;
@tthbaltazar@chaos.social it's both
@iro_miya
isn't it wordplay on copyright?
@tthbaltazar@chaos.social it absolutely is, and the word "copyleft" originally referred to the political left
@tthbaltazar@chaos.social I consider free software more of a social movement than a political movement. As free software does not belong to any one particular political ideology.
It is more similar to other social movements like pacifism/anti-war. Almost everyone in the world from every political movement agrees that war is bad. Yet we still fight wars all over the world, because a minority of powerful people may gain from it...
I see free software movement as a similar movement.
