@BowsacNoodle propress is good stuff
you don't have to buy the >$1k cordless tool, a cheap hand pumped hydraulic one is fine

@skylar I'm going to see if I can borrow one to finish this project. I got a bunch of stuff done and my ugly Frankenstein connectors worked fine (no leaks), but it'd be great if I could use something like this to help me finish the next few parts

Looks way easier than pex. That shit's great but difficult to clamp unless you have BIG hands (I don't). Even with a very good tool it's hard.

@UnCL3 @Thickasabrick They work with PEX too, I guess.

@tyler @UnCL3 @Thickasabrick I've never done PEX. I sweat copper every time, but I'm finally trying to run PEX and I have to do a Rube Goldberg setup to even get it where I want. Lots of bendy boys and drilling.

Just use a ratchet style stainless clamp band and you can do 1" PEX no problem

Weird. I ran PEX as a new water main from the street, into the house and all across the yard to 5 hydrants and a big water filter, a laundry shed with a small water heater and filter system. I love it. Sure it doesn't look great but who cares.

Or you can just go with my standby, I'm into functionality.

@tyler @UnCL3 @Thickasabrick I'm old and my first house I was doing plumbing back when PEX was super expensive and new. Now it's cheaper because copper is in high demand

@BowsacNoodle do it
propress is easy and foolproof, just prep the pipes well so you don't tear the o-ring on a burr
viega's the good shit and sometimes home depot has them, nibco has some quality control issues

@poastoak @tyler @UnCL3 @Thickasabrick I've never ran PVC and idk anything about it. Does it put microplastics into my balls?

@BowsacNoodle @tyler @UnCL3 @Thickasabrick Is there anything left in the world that doesn't?

@poastoak @tyler @UnCL3 @Thickasabrick That's just IRLthot pee from birth control. Filter after it gets to your house or else it'll leach copper.

@BowsacNoodle @tyler @UnCL3 @Thickasabrick Does the copper filter out the estrogen the city is dumping in at the treatment plant

@skylar @BowsacNoodle @UnCL3 I've been using the sharkbite connectors for pex....
-

@BowsacNoodle @UnCL3 @Thickasabrick they do, my propress tool has a set of dies for the stainless rings on PEX

@Thickasabrick @skylar @UnCL3 That's what I have in place for it right now. I give them credit for making a legitimately easy to use quick connection, but damn if they don't make me a bit nervous.

@Thickasabrick @UnCL3 @BowsacNoodle i did a couple of those before i had a propress tool and i've yet to have one fail
i was careful to prep the pipes really nicely but they worry me a little

@Thickasabrick @skylar @UnCL3 Been using that here. Previous owner had used pex and sharkbites to plum in a vanity with minimal holes, which I thought was clever but a pain in the ass for me. No shutoffs so I had to turn off the whole house or cut a big hole in the vanity bottom. I went with the hole.

@UnCL3 @skylar @Thickasabrick I got one of those tiny orange C clamp looking things (should've just used an adjustable wrench but it was like $2) and it lets me take it off really easily without damaging it.

@skylar @UnCL3 @Thickasabrick I saw that sharkbite is approved to use outside and possibly in buried pipes now (idk if it's a different type for underground or outside). The mechanism they use for these things is really very clever with multiple layers and spinning pieces independent of the grippy parts.
