Different approaches to the same game are fascinating to me.

    Like #Darksouls and #EldenRing:
PVP? Maxing out soul level? Fashion Souls? Lore? Overcoming challenges? Co-Op?

I like that discussion because it reveals something about the person and their outlook and interests. Including if they've thought about why they like it and why they play it.

@Varyag That's fair. I don't like DS/ER for PVP. It's too jank with lag and hitboxes. I'll play PVP casually but if i want real competition in a rewarding game, that's what fighting games like Street Fighter/Dead Or Alive/Blazblue are for

I fll off ER quickly and only came back at friends' urging due to the DLC.

Most of them swear that the subsequent balance patches have done a lot to nerf the most heinous builds so that's something.

Having fun casually playing ER solo/co-op/PvP & just vibing

@NaClKnight@mstdn.games I've done a lot of things over the years in Souls games... I got in too late for multiplayer on DS1, but I at least played with a friend on a second character. DS3 I played at launch, did tons of Sunbro coop, did a full co-op run with the same friend, then made a million PvP builds.
Eventually lost all of those, never really picked up the game again.

Got Elden Ring on release, tried some co-op but after realizing how absolutely busted and unbalanced certain weapons were in PvP, I didn't even want to try anymore. If I ever get back into that game I'll do full solo or modded coop.

@bdf2121cc3334b35b6ecda66e471 @Varyag Everyone's definition is different so what would "From taking PvP seriously" look/feel like for you?

@Varyag @NaClKnight This was my experience too. When From's PvP isn't forced on me, I never choose it.

I'll start taking it seriously when they do. No, tweaking numbers in a spreadsheet doesn't count.

@NaClKnight@mstdn.games yeah you're right on the first point. I gave up PVP on Armored Core (and Gundam BO2 but that's another story) a mech game where I REALLY enjoyed the pvp gameplay because the balance and netcode were D O G S H I T. Seriously I cannot put into words how bad (the literal only worse game at that was GBO2, which is why I mentioned it)

      sigh

anyway, I liked PVP in Dark Souls, because it was a quick, fun and immediate way to try out and experience new wildly different builds to what I usually used in PVE. But eventually not even that could keep me playing, and ER/AC6 was so bad I gave up on FromSoft games pvp forever. Still love their games tho, just in PVE now.
