     @Baa @SuperDicq yeah there are many reasons the dogs suck. they also terrorize and bite and injure people for no reason frequently, and when they are used for things like searching cars they frequently cause massive property destruction that the police aren't liable for. I have a friend whose car was destroyed by a police dog.

     Here they are literally seen as a tool and I'm pretty sure there's no penalty for trying to defend yourself against one.

     the netherlands is possibly sensible about this. there was a case a couple years ago where nl cops deliberately used police dogs to attack peaceful anti-vaccine protesters. the police ended up getting punished for it, something that will never, EVER happen in the USA.

     Security dogs are just meant to look intimidating and control crowds at protests and stuff, they are not meant to actually bite people.
     
     Sniffer dogs are just trained to help police research to go after smells, be it drugs, bodies, etc. They thankfully can't serve as evidence here however.
     
     And the worst are the arresting dogs. They are actually trained in such as way that as soon as they are let loose they go after the first person they see and bite them (even if that person is not the culprit).

     @Kagekokoro @SuperDicq @Baa ideally, but to refer back to my earlier post, many dogs are simply badly trained so there may not be a guarantee it will act right. I think we basically agree that it's not fair to the dog, it didn't sign up voluntarily to be used by a cop correctly or incorrectly

     This. I've seen enough videos like this to confidently say dogs do not understand their role in Law Enforcement. Cops will sic a dog on anyone they don't like.
