In Asia these apartments would be surrounded by other apartments all interspersed with stores and restaurants and well-connected public transportation and parks or recreational facilities---zero need to ever own a vehicle other than perhaps a bicycle or e-bike.

     @Nudhul @swurl Here in our urban condo building, @glitter and I talk to our neighbors far more often than my family ever talked to our neighbors back in the suburbs. It helps when you encounter people face-to-face in the hall on a regular basis, which isn't the case when everyone's in their cars.
