But the local schmo's said that the secret service has for their help and the overwhelming majority of security detail was done by local cops. This would make more sense as to why so many failures took place. Trump also had requested more agents multiple times as reported by Fox right before the Press conference. They would not comment on the gun or the caliber or if he has more than one gun. They basically did a worthless press conference that answered almost no questions. And ironically to their credit, you could tell that the media was pretty pissed off that they basically got nothing out of the guy. And at the Secret Service didn't even have a representative there to answer any questions or anything. Also the guy from the state police acknowledged that Witnesses said they were trying to tell the police that someone was climbing onto the roof with a rifle. So there's no getting out of that now . -

Like I understand that they might not had enough personnel to cover all roofs and buildings, but easily knew which one was uncovered "just in case".
Now the second question wouldn't be "why they let him take at least two shots?", if thats the case. -

Yes, it's possible to be accurate beyond that, but generally only from a bench rest. -

I just watched a video on Twitter with the guy who was sitting next to the person that got killed. He was drenched in blood talking to CBS News about how the impact was explosive. At that range the 22 would be tumbling drastically but still carry enough speed to Corkscrew through. It all depends on the ammo itself not necessarily the caliber. Hollow point 22s will shred into pieces on impact. Most of the time they won't exit your body they'll shred you from the inside. Getting shot with a 22 would be the worst type of shot death. But subSonic made by CCI with a plated tip would go through you with an impact of a low-grain 223 round. I assure you it would be not hard to do this. People just assume 22s are low impact but they're not. More than likely it was a throat hit . A 22 through the neck would be like a straw being stuck into one of your veins. Like a literal jap Gore fight scene -

9mm it said to have a little more stopping power but if your going for accuracy. 22 is still the standard for some pistols.
Not talking rifles, but you can probably see why .22 makes sense if thats the case.
Not to mention its light and you can hold more ammo -

I was shooting polymer tips that Hornady made that cost me over $100 a box. I tried three more times and only my first shot was anywhere close. I went to a demo put on by by a few companies back in 2018. They were introducing this new subsonic 22 long rifle. They consistently shot well with it at 400 m using a Ruger American and a Bergara. Not sure where everyone thinks it's a long rifle though, I saw it happen live and that sounded pretty loud for it to be a 22 at that distance. Even tactical / X Tac subsonic are not that loud -
