   So we went to the immigration office and didn't meet with the advocate who was supposed to be there. Could not reach him on the phone. Finally called our agent who called him and found out the immigration office had just canceled all yellow slip appointments for the day because they were "too busy" and he was trying to fix it

   Sat around in 35C for a fucking hour not hearing anything. Called our agent again and they found out the advocate had just fucking up and left without even telling us to go home. Damn near got heatstroke cause we were masked and didn't have water to drink even if we weren't

   I fucking hate Cyprus

     Northern Cyprus has no legal status, so no, that's not an issue in this case.

     The Republic of Cyprus, however, which is in the EU, has a civil service that couldn't find its arse with an atlas and both hands.

     @HauntedOwlbear least I don't have to be worried about being late to secure my yellow slip anymore. We tried to get our own appointment, call nobody picks up. Try the online portal it doesn't work and they literally decommissioned it. Try in Limassol they say no you have to do it locally or in Nicosia. Try to do it locally after finally getting an appointment after 2 months they just cancel it on the morning and our alleged legal counsel fucking ghosts us to boot. Like at some point this stops being my fuck up and I think we're well past it

     @eniko I mean, you'd not be the first. France has its own shit visible and less visible (it's mostly the incredibly painful cost of living increases that are killing me), but at least the small business and immigration environments are functional and even shockingly helpful.

     When I fucked up my taxes last year, someone from the local office dropped me an email to ask me to send over my royalty statement for some published work overseas and they just... filled in all the corrections for me.

     But I can't say that I never look at the political situation here, and the degree to which fascist-sympathies-lite are tolerated among people ("everyone has a right to their opinion!") and sometimes think "I wonder if I should be somewhere else". But that's the state of everything I suppose these days,

     it's been 2 years and i've been without access to proper healthcare this entire time. fortunately we moved from the US so you know paying out of pocket is still cheaper. except i'm also PAYING TAXES FOR THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM THAT I CANT ACCESS

     anyway i'd ask for help finding a competent legal professional to help us with this again but last time every cypriot who saw our plea for help was like "yeah the system is completely broken and almost all lawyers in cyprus are nepo baby idiots sorry i cant help more good luck"

     @eniko It's possible, maybe more so in a tech hub like Laval, Lyon or Rennes, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it.

     @HauntedOwlbear @eniko I knew a few people that tried Germany, but there it's required knowledge of German language. I would NOT recommend Holland after hearing 'too many stories' about people working there ( plus it seems they have 'special laws for EU citizens' ) I know some people "would just run to Finland" but it can be very cold there, I've been there a few times not sure would do for me for too long 🙂 I would not go Italy cause 'too much to deal with' and not a good place to work 🙂

     @HauntedOwlbear @eniko OK "I know it could be a place with many problems" but if there's one place I'd run to would be .. BRASIL .. eventually I'd recommend PORTUGAL too 🙂
