In all seriousness, some people have this desire to be liked by others. Sometimes that's just not going to happen.

My wife's dad is cool. A laid back spaniard, but her mom is nuts, which is why her mom and dad are divorced.

Her mom used to try to do anything to "be my buddy," but I just found her whole persona needy af, and just rebuffed every advance. Now she won't even come to our house for family gatherings because everyone else in the family, including my parents, siblings, etc are "right wing extremists." So be it. We're actually happier without her.

  We just live by how people make us feel. If someone makes you feel bad, don't associate with them. Simple as. How you're related is irrelevant.

  That's one of the traps. People often think they can "fix" people or relationships. That's not generally how the world works. People tend to return to their habits. As a result, empathy traps them in shit.
