     @pernia id recommend my own too but we're defederated by a ton of instances like tech.lgbt that normal people might want to interact with every once in a while. Honestly leaning towards either starting an instance for new people if they have the infra and really want to or recommending an under the radar instance (I know at least one)

     @kirby i wouldnt want normal people interacting with tech.lgbt and other horseshit. Mastodon.social might be a loss just from the volume, but the less aggressively deferating instances i dont think will have an issue. Starting an instance is also a good idea, but high maintenance

     @pernia no some of the people on those lgbt instances are surprisingly nice, it'd be fine for people to interact with them most of the time. Mostly people like wetdry.world that attract anarchocommunist types that are terrible
     
     Mastosoc is a *big* loss because all the famous people are on the giant fucking node. Big nodes are the root of all evil.
     
     Maintenance is sort of an actual problem, but I could help with that for now
