“This engraving font is named Gorton and is well over 100 years old! It was originally made for camera lenses in the U.K. It’s everywhere around you, usually in places like these.”

@mwichary huh ... I've seen this font so many times on signs like these I always assumed it was made for an engraving machine specifically. Whenever I see it engraved in a slab of plastic like that I think of locker rooms and bowling alleys.

@mwichary Huh. I have camera lenses with this font on them, I never made the connection between that and old signage like this. It's probably now going to Baader-Meinhof me everywhere.

I thought that after the book I will stop caring, but I’m even more obsessed with Gorton now! Maybe I should turn it into a deep dive post or a talk or something.
