Ugh I'm lazy
Fedi, recommend me a laptop with a 3:2 screen and an active stylus? I think that's the closest I'm ever gonna get to going back to my gorgeous Toshiba Tecra M4
EDIT: not a new laptop obviously haha, like couple hundred bucks on ebay

@ifixcoinops I had this conversation SO MANY TIMES over the last decade:
"so when are you going to get a better laptop?"
"as soon as they actually sell a laptop that's better than this one from 2009"
I kept this thing running for like fifteen years because it kicked that much ass
Nice tall 4:3 screen, 1400x1050 (in 2005!), Wacom tablet built right into the monitor, touchpad AND nipple AND stylus, swivel the screen around and turn it into a tablet, press a button and get a vertical monitor (!!!), pull out the optical drive and replace it with a bigger battery, it Kicked, the Ass
After 32-bit architecture no longer cut the mustard I went to a desktop and since then I've been sat around sighing and twiddling my thumbs with my laptop-buying cash bored in my wallet patiently waiting for laptop makers to come to their FUCKING SENSES
@ifixcoinops (I'm still waiting of course, but I do appreciate the mad shenzhen hacker collective that built a 2017-era replacement motherboard for it)
There are things you can do with your computer that you should never do with your computer because you'll never be able to use another computer again
Got curious and turned your screen on its side? Oops, can't go back, every laptop will fill you with rage now. You'll start calling 16:9 "shortscreen" and people will give you funny looks and ask you what the problem is.
Oh, you listened to the office lady with the wrist brace and tried her trackball one time, just ONE DAMN TIME, congratulations, you touched it you bought it, sliding your finger around a trackpad's gonna give you the ick now.
Tried a split keyboard? Un-hunched your shoulders, didn'tcha! You're REALLY fucked now, pal!
@ifixcoinops it's the Bidet Dilemma but for computers
@ifixcoinops "I'm sorry, you want me to rub ... paper? on my ass?!? and you think that will make it CLEAN???"
It's 2024 and laptops still don't have a scroll wheel
It's 2024 and laptops still can't use the same battery I use for my drill
It's 2024 and I still can't rotate the screen to vertical on my laptop
It's 2024 and my laptop still has its keys offset to make room for the typewriter arms
I swear one of these days I'm gonna build my own laptop and it'll be made out of 3/4" plywood and have a Designated Rat Piss Zone next to the nice warm power supply because I work in the arcade industry and that's all I know
@ifixcoinops I tried this a few years ago but with 3mm plywood instead of 3/4-inch
at the time it was nearly impossible to get an SBC board that would run on the kind of battery board that could do pass-thru charging; pine64 was the only contender and their boards tended to just randomly stop working after a while (no idea if the situation has improved since then but I should really look into it)

looks cool as hell tho
@ifixcoinops I guess a Dan-Fixes-Coinops-brand laptop would be called a ThinkDad
