you're seeing this because fresh people are realizing there are real problems, and acting like this is part of the normal process of coming to terms.

They see a huge problem and want you to say "do this silver bullet action and it will be fixed"

They call it "rage bait" because it's making them mad, and they don't want to be mad, they want to ignore it and go back to doing other things.

> two decades following the breakup of the USSR
There did seem to be at least some men in positions of power that loved the country and its native stock
We don’t seem to have a single man of this kind in a position of power in the US

@sickburnbro This is why it is valuable to study the two decades following the breakup of the USSR. There is no quick fix or one simple trick to reconstruct an economic and political system spanning a large land mass/polity. It's going to take a long time and it's going to hurt.

@ACL9000 that's not "americans" - it's conservatives. They are the people that are defined by not wanting to change.

@sickburnbro Americans love their one-time silver bullets. It's never about "be different from now on", for most of us.

@TrevorGoodchild @sickburnbro That's why I study the Revolutionary War, Civil War, and Ferfal's book on Surviving During the Economic Collapse in Argentina and SELCO's experiences in the Bosnian war.
We are headed for one or the other or a combination of some or all of them.

@sickburnbro Oh, I don't know... it feels fairly universal, sometimes. People flipping out over ozempic is on that wavelength. Miracle-Gro.
What made me start thinking along these lines years ago was when I was getting myself out of the situation normie-style living had put me in, and while I was busy restricting myself and beating myself up, all the discussion around me was focused on "What *additional* goodie can I eat in order to become fit?" and it blew my mind. It was way normal to find people out there who expected One Weird Trick to work without supporting effort.

@ACL9000 well, everything in society is like that, and has been since the 50s. it's all about selling the miracle cure.
We'll need to get out of that on a societal level.

@InvictusManeo @TrevorGoodchild @DemonSixOne yes, the grip of equalism is incredibly powerful.

@TrevorGoodchild @DemonSixOne @sickburnbro "The cult of simple", Trev.
Midwits need it, desperately.
Like magic wand and all that, it helps their little mental gymnastic with which they tolerate this situation, instead of rejecting it.
The moment they're confronted with the bitter reality of what was going on, they are broken in despair.
They WANT to think that they can fix a polity like they could fix a dishwasher , deep inside they know that is not possible, but the desire to hold into their magical beliefs (such as "equality") is stronger than their grip on reality itself.

@DemonSixOne @sickburnbro Russian death rates from alcoholism at that time period correspond to current American death rates from narcotic overdoses. Both are deaths of despair afflicting the native stock

@TrevorGoodchild @sickburnbro The 90s were a wild time. I think the Yugoslav wars are a relevant topic as well.

@TrevorGoodchild @sickburnbro I somewhat feel like we are in a similar looting phase as Russia was during the Yeltsin years, where external powers mined the land and people for resources.
