    It's odd that as much as I get anxious in general about meeting new people in person, that anxiety is mostly absent for "internet people".

    Talking to neighbors? 😱

    Sharing a hotel room with some random person I had a brief conversation with on a forum? 👍

      Though neighbors who are clearly unsure whether I'm a woman or a man is amusing. I like "not to my knowledge" as an answer to questions about this in theory, though in reality people are extremely reluctant to ask.

      @ryanc

      While you might find someone in the UK who would directly ask you that question I suspect you may never encounter them.

      Probably 🙂🤷♂️

      @ryanc From my outsider cis perspective, it's because your online persona is well defined, but when meeting you (or any non binary person) in person for the first time, there's a bit of awkwardness due to the lack of information (do we say "sir", "ma'am", will this hurt them if we choose wrong?). In my case I'd be very reluctant to ask, but I'm also the kind of person who's known people for years without knowing their first name and too afraid to ask too

      @aris The social anxiety was a thing before I came out though.

      I had "business cards" made a while back that explain I'm nonbinary and how to refer to me, though I mostly give them to flight attendants and waitstaff.
