@dalias I never heard of that happening in Belgium, but our gas stations pumps usually have modified triggers so you can't leave it locked and the weather isn't that cold so we have less temptation to stay inside the car. I think I may have driven off once or twice with a door/trunk left open or stuff on the roof.
Is there an ICE car equivalent to jumping in your EV and attempting to start with the charging cable still plugged in? It happens to me quite regularly.
@dalias@thedarktangent I don't think rewarding clickbait articles with exposure is the way to go. I'd rather share an article from a competing newspaper that doesn't use artificial engagement mechanisms (you won't believe which ones).
@malwareminigun@fleaz I'll never forgive them of deciding to make USB3 backward compatible with USB2 by multiplexing USB2 electrically instead of tunneling USB2 through USB3. It makes so many USB2 devices unstable when behind a hub.
I opened my 12v battery charger that had a magic smoke event in the past to see if I could fix it... I don't understand how that kind of electronic could be sold in EU (bought it in Hubo or Brico IIRC).
Fuse but at the output only
Only a transformer. Not a single cap to flatten the voltage, I'm not even sure there is a diode rectifier.
No connection to ground (no ground pin) despite the all metal packaging
Absolutely no charge monitoring, fail check or anything
This thing is a electrical shock hazard in addition to a fire hazard. Let's say it burns (like it did) and one of the copper wire touches the case... Nothing would happen (not even differential tripping) until the owner touches the case and gets shocked.
Damn, I missed the backdoor in OpenSSH accusation flame thread and now I didn't have any popcorn when reading it. Without saying that the OpenSSH dev team have stronger nerves than me

Friends from the EU. It doesn't matter which EU country you're from, it is very important that you sign the petition for ban on conversion therapy across the EU. The threshold has been reached for number of countries but very far from the target on raw numbers of votes. It does not matter which EU country you're from. every vote counts.
I'm curious to know who from my friends still consider going to Defcon this year. The political situation there is degrading further and further and already reached the "I definitively won't go for the next 4+ years" threshold for me. Would you go to a defcon equivalent in Russia or North Korea? This week a French CNRS research was illegally searched and sent back home because he had private chats critical of His Majesty Trump. People from Germany have disappeared for weeks and suffered from torture because they were looking white enough.
I wouldn't directly recommend anyone to do what I did but spending a whole evening discussing with chatgpt in order to put some context or order in your thoughts is very valuable provided you're careful with what it says. It has the advantages of rubber ducky debugging with some new ideas coming there and there and words to reassure you that you should not blame yourself too much, which is easy when you're overthinking past events.
The disadvantage... Now OpenAI may train their next ai with stuff so private I never shared it with a human being before.
