@ryanc streaming the log output of CADO-NFS? While explaining what all the output is all about without knowing how much time the whole operation will take.

@ryanc That's right, I thought of asking the dev team what would be acceptable to them but haven't found a way to reach them yet. Maybe a "I swear that I have a license to the game" popup would suffice, maybe they'll want that we upload the data files from a legit install. I'll def do that before advertising it on the introversion forums.

@ryanc Webassembly. The most important work was making the codebase compile with emcc, porting the game to SDL2 and fixing the missing gl functions in the gl interface of webasm to WebGL Plus debugging a gl compatibility problem which took most of the evening.
I don't think I could have done it without the parrot :)

@ryanc when it's ready you will have a try at hacking an uplink bank with the proxy_bypass and become rich like in the good old times.

@ryanc tbh dd is so old that it has a pre-unix command line and no one complains about that. I'd totally adopt a dd that has a syntax like
dd --source /dev/urandom --destination some_random_file --count 1024 --unit KiB

I thought that copyright trolls were dead but a Belgian non-profit I'm member of received an extorsion attempt from a copyright troll over an astronomy picture inside a 12 years old PDF deep on their website. They want more than 700€ of fees.... The original author is part of the amateur astronomy community, I bet he would be excited to learn his work is being used to ransom money out of nonprofits for saving the night sky.

@ryanc and despite all that information, 90% of the Belgian websites still serve the wrong language by default to French-speaking visitors.

A question I ask myself often when seeing one of these projects, is "why do you hate your users that much that you're using sourceforge to host them?" SF is trash and there are at least 3 better alternatives that aren't github.

@soatok @dalias I don't think they're idiots, I think they know exactly what they're doing and why they're aligning with the interests of the oil businesses and/or Russian government.

@dalias I never heard of that happening in Belgium, but our gas stations pumps usually have modified triggers so you can't leave it locked and the weather isn't that cold so we have less temptation to stay inside the car.
I think I may have driven off once or twice with a door/trunk left open or stuff on the roof.

Is there an ICE car equivalent to jumping in your EV and attempting to start with the charging cable still plugged in? It happens to me quite regularly.

@dalias @thedarktangent I don't think rewarding clickbait articles with exposure is the way to go. I'd rather share an article from a competing newspaper that doesn't use artificial engagement mechanisms (you won't believe which ones).

@malwareminigun @fleaz I'll never forgive them of deciding to make USB3 backward compatible with USB2 by multiplexing USB2 electrically instead of tunneling USB2 through USB3. It makes so many USB2 devices unstable when behind a hub.

bought it for 50€ at Hubo in 2015, maybe the certification rules improved since then.

I opened my 12v battery charger that had a magic smoke event in the past to see if I could fix it...
I don't understand how that kind of electronic could be sold in EU (bought it in Hubo or Brico IIRC).

    • Fuse but at the output only
    • Only a transformer. Not a single cap to flatten the voltage, I'm not even sure there is a diode rectifier.
    • No connection to ground (no ground pin) despite the all metal packaging
    • Absolutely no charge monitoring, fail check or anything

This thing is a electrical shock hazard in addition to a fire hazard. Let's say it burns (like it did) and one of the copper wire touches the case... Nothing would happen (not even differential tripping) until the owner touches the case and gets shocked.
