I am really done with these classic anime remakes.
The Spice and Wolf remake is just plain and boring and doesn't do anything better than the original. They even have the same cast and they should've just made season 3 instead. It feels pointless.
I think the Trigun remake wouldn't be bad if it was its own original thing. However the fact that it is Trigun makes the full westernized 3DCG artstyle feel like absolute disrepect to the original.
And don't even get me started on the Berserk remake, that was absolute ass.
I've only seen a single good anime remake in my life and it is Space Battleship Yamato 2199. This is how you do a remake of a classic show.

@beardalaxy@gameliberty.club I haven't seen it so I do not have an opinion about it.
Is it actually good? -

@beardalaxy@gameliberty.club I'm hard to please because I also don't think Rebuild of Evangelion is very good. While the animation is definitely better it lacks some of the character of the original.

Oh how could I forget.
I think there's one single thing worse in my opinion than Berserk 2016.
It's Initial D Legends.
Initial D Legends is actually the worst thing ever conceived. What the fuck were they thinking? How could you make anything Initial D and not involve Eurobeat? Do you not know anything about why people actually like the thing you're making? How do you get so story details about the iconic season 1 of Initial D so wrong? The new voice actors are ass, no shit they brought back the original cast for MF Ghost. This entire series of movies is the biggest crime against anime. It's worse than the 4Kids version of Sailor Moon (that one is at least funny because it's bad). Initial D Legends is just the most disappointing thing ever made and we should all collectively forget it exists and bury it in a desert. -

but the animation is good thoNobody cares, the original season 1 of the anime has 3DCG that looks like a PS1 game but yet they pulled it off the story, vibe, aesthetic and pacing so well that it became the one of the most hype anime ever created.

@bitals@fediverse.bitals.xyz Yeah I know the new Trigun is so separate it feels like a different show so why make them related in the first place. If they just made an original show instead I wouldn't feel the need to compare them.

I just treat the new Trigun as a separate thing, it'pretty good this way. Not the anime of the decade, but good.Initial D Legends is just dumb though, completely agree. I do my best to forget it exists after every time it's mentioned, and it's pretty easy to do.

@bitals@fediverse.bitals.xyz Taking away the technical stuff for the normies is actually worse than you think.
The accurate and realistic technical stuff is one of the key aspects that makes Initial D unique and immersive.
Taking this away again takes away so much. We already have plenty of Fast and Furious "danger to manifold" type stuff for normies. Why take away what makes it unique and interesting to become a dime in a dozen instead? -

@SuperDicq
When I first got it shown to me by a friend (the *kansei dorifuto* scene), I immediately noticed not the absence of the eurobeat, but how like half of the Takumi' actions and the 86' movements were missing, stealing away most of the scene' impact.
The original clearly showed all this nerdy stuff while still making everything necessary obvious enough for normies, this was completely gone in the Legends. -

@bitals@fediverse.bitals.xyz My point is that I think storytelling, cinematography and pacing are far more important than the quality of animation.
While in the original season 1 there's never more than 10 polygons on screen, because of all these aspects it is infinitely more watchable than Legends. -

@SuperDicq
Yes, they animated all of this by hand, so doing the whole thing would be very hard, time-consuming and expensive.
It's just as if they knew something while doing the original and went with CGI for this reason...Also in later Initial D seasons there were manually animated technical scenes, and they were fine.

@jihadjimmy@the.asbestos.cafe I might pick up the reboot, but neither "space politics" nor "star wars" particularly sound like something I'm very interested in.

The original run from the 80s yeah, I like it, that shit's great. Gets a bit boring at times with secondary characters and plots but watching an OVA that dives deep into politics and war strategy like that is refreshing. I'm not sure about the reboot but seems like it went full Star Wars. -

@jihadjimmy@the.asbestos.cafe I like Space Battleship Yamato 2199 specifically because despite being a reboot it keeps its iconic 1970s space opera combined with WW2 naval warfare aesthetic. They even got rerecorded the original sound track in high quality for it. It's a glorious sight to behold.

@SuperDicq
Right I wasn't really thinking I'd like it that much because politics tend to be boring but LOGH knows how to tell the story, and the two main characters are great.
Another thing it has is that it was obviously a low budget work and they had to save money somewhere, so they went full Chad and just picked the most epic classic symphonies which are public domain, and used that for the soundtrack.
