     When I was in Singapore with rin there was an area that had a dozen travel agency shops right next to each other

     @triodug the use case for it is if your boomer parents want to go Italy and you don’t want them to be robbed by gypsies or something. Having a guy on call who can speak the language is useful

     you wouldn't want to go to the soviet union without the correct paperwork detailing where you were going and why just like you wouldn't do that with north korea today
     
     and sure, they were an extreme case but countries like the UK weren't *that* different for foreigners -- there are weird laws like vagrancy laws(UK) , alcohol prohibition laws(muslim world), and whatnot to keep mindful of which they might have information about too

     the WWW didn't exist and people had to do paperwork *without accessing a foreign government's website or app* that most people would expect today
