@Bubu If it's any consolation, my laptop reliably does this every time it gets hooked up to the media centre. I know now, but it was incomprehensible the first time it happened.

Well, yesterday I tried anyway, connecting an HDMI cable and trying to change the audio-out... Oh look at that, my speakers are back.
I can't reproduce the problem anymore either. Computers are weird. 🤷

It was mildly annoying and I got as far noticing there was no audio device present in the system but I kept putting off actually dealing with it.
I still had this nagging feeling that this broke after we watched a movie via this notebook and external screen/sound system a while back. But that didn't really make any sense did it?
