     @ryanhoulihan my 15 year old has no idea how computers work, because everyone around them for their entire life assumed that they just... Knew how to use one.

     @cynthiarose @ryanhoulihan Turns out struggling with DOS and trying to get Windows 3.1 to speak TCP/IP gave us important life skills that those who grew up with "it all just works" don't have 😆

     @ryanhoulihan hahaha you would’ve LOVED programming VCRs in the 80s and 90s. Every household had exactly one person who could do it, the rest were helpless 😂

     @ryanhoulihan I was the techy GenX kid who people begged to make their VCRs stop blinking 12:00. I simply cannot understand how people in my age bracket are so tech-illiterate. Like, we were moulded in the early fires of the Internet. I buy routers based on if I can install something like DD-WRT on them. I burned a Debian DVD like a month ago to install it on a PC that can't boot from USB. Meanwhile, my 70+ mum bought a podcaster mic from Amazon, and installed it herself.

     @ryanhoulihan I got this with Gen Z nieces. Bought them laptops for school, checked in a while later to watch one turns theirs on and it ran chkdsk immediately.

     "That's not good."
     "Oh, it always does that."
     "...It shouldn't."

     Turns out being brought up terminally online with mobile phones she thought turning off a PC was also just "Hold the power button until it dies".
