   Ugh.

   I was asking our HR and indirectly our visa handlers whether I can fly abroad in July/August or if that will complicate my visa renewal process in late August.

   I asked early last month and chased them for a response twice. I haven't heard from them for two weeks, and the latest was that they will be checking and they apologized for taking time.

   Now I found out that they went to my manager's manager and asked for approval for an extra administrative fee for early application because I "will be flying abroad" during the period I need to be in HK.

   Instead of telling me two weeks ago "it's possible, but will require an admistrative fee", in which case I would have said ok, then I won't fly.

   Now instead I've got my manager's manager asking my manager why I'm so irresponsible and leaving the city in the middle of my visa process, when I was literally waiting with my decision and first making sure it would not be a complication.

   My manager will sort this out. I forwarded him my original request "[is it possible to fly during that time or would that complicate things]", which HR or whoever turned into "will fly during that time" somewhere along the way.

     Apart from the frustrating administrative story, the message here is that sorry, won't be joining FOSSy and won't be coming to Vancouver.

     Next year I'll try again! I'll be a permanent resident by January and won't have any renewal schedules to keep up with after that.

     @excds All sorted. With all the evidence available, the perception becomes a 180, mgr mgr now says I showed a responsible attitude. 😃

     @sun It's a routine renewal, just that the timeline is strict and the timing unlucky.
