Isn't this a missed opportunity for the #fediverse, #Pixelfed in particular?

@BeAware Also, I'm wondering why no photographers and creative folks set up [multiple] instances.

I mean, during the first Twitter mass exodus (Japanese side), Misskey, Pleroma, and Mastodon instances went online one after another. Which was then repeated during the Twitter exodus 2 (Western side).

Then there was the Reddit exodus, and Lemmy and Kbin instances sprung up everywhere.

It's a wonder why that, I don't know, “formula”(?) did not happen in this case. I mean, granted, Cara has been around. But, there were also other platforms around during the earlier mass exodus events.

Hmm… I guess there are few techie people in the photography and creatives community of Instagram? Or, they were disenfranchised by Threads one-way federation? (Other than so very few talked about Pixelfed.)

@BeAware In any case, I guess someone can convince the founder of Cara to consider adding an federation option.

I am trying to get back to photography, but also thinking about art of somekind. Just wasn't sure what was a good idea at any one time and such. Mastodon just seemed a safe option for a jack of all trades to start.

Creatives often want, above all else, to have their art seen and appreciated. I think there's a stigma about the fediverse that says you won't have that here. That a person's reach is extremely limited in the fediverse. I don't know if that's actually true or not, but until that perception changes, it's going to be hard to attract major creative types. (Of any kind: artists, journalists, musicians, etc.)

It's a bit of a chicken and egg problem.

Ooh, a very good point! Especially for those who takes on requests for art. They indeed need a lot of exposure.

Well, I think that's the perception among outsiders. The question is how to change that perception.

I hope so. I've been at this Mastodon thing for about a year and a half, and already I have about as many followers as I had at Twitter after 13 years.

I guess it's a function of time and numbers.

On birdchan I had ten times the followers and it meant far more help and collaboration. But that took years to develop.

Maybe in a few years, I'll have that again here, and maybe not

You may have articulated a key point about migrations.

They only work if people stay on the old platforms and use them to promote their authentic self on new platforms.

The boycott method doesn't work for these systems.
