     @cine @hidden @scathach True, if you insist on learning languages in a ‘logical’ way, you end up knowing a lot of linguistics and very little of language. I fall into this trap too easily

It is popularly believed among Hanzi learning circles that he suggests this SO THAT YOU USE THE CHILD PART OF YOUR BRAIN INSTEAD OF SITTING THERE STUDYING LINGUISTICS INSTEAD OF LEARNING A LANGUAGE.

     @ai @hidden @scathach I feel you're thinking too much about it. Back when I learned japanese writing I just associated the words with meanings and if i remembered them, that's good, if not, try again.
     
     I think I mentioned something to that effect some months ago. I was doing alright, but a series of life changing decisions made me throw all that in the back burner, and well, if you don't use it, you lose it. Gotta start again smh.

     @ai @hidden @scathach This is me learning Latin, can't learn anything because every 2 words i'm like "Ahh, so that's where this word in spanish/english comes from" or "ofc, given the phonetic drift this turned into that", and each time it leads me to a 2 hour dives into etymology and phonetics rabbit holes.
