  @TheMadPirate@detroitriotcity.com @Soy_Magnus@detroitriotcity.com @jeffcliff@shitposter.world plus the entire thing where the labor of performing the review is free (academics do it for free for the circular justification of "someone else will have to review my paper eventually too"), yet the publishing costs only increase, often still going behind a paywall. It's no wonder arxiv is so popular among younger academics and fields that are too young to have entrenched journals.

  @Soy_Magnus @jeffcliff The Peer Review Industry has been excessively profitable for ages now, mostly because paper are usually pay with Government Grants to Universities and Research Institutions, i.e. Taxpayer Money, ergo there is never a shortage of money to pay for "THE SCIENCE". Also, the Scientific Publications Industry is very concentrated and cartelized so the 3 or 4 companies that run it ( Springer-Verlag, Academic Press, Wiley-Blackwell, Oxford Academic Press, Routledge and Elsevier ) tend to converge on the prices per page of the published papers ( which Governments happily paid through Grants ).

Ive seen them promote trump and a larger welfare warfare state and then a few articles later they point out the tyranny of a larger state scope and lack of personal liberty. Its because they allow many people of many ideologies to publish their articles as long as theyre well articulated and researched.
