> CWs
I use them to be polite sometimes but somebody's client inevitably strips it off

That's a great point. I have seen people demand that even food posts are cw'd. Like wtf? At a certain point, if it is a real issue for you then you should get the devs to make it easier for you to mute posts with certain words to avoid them rather than expecting everyone else to somehow know which posts to cw with what. That's not a fun atmosphere to foster and I don't want to be a part of that, I'd rather people felt they could freely discuss whatever interests or seems pressing for them. And I can decide whether I want to be a part of that or not.
We already have muting tools here, although it would be great to see them expand so that you can decide which posts you don't want to see at all and which ones you just want the muted word as a warning. I like tools that give me more control so I can do more about it rather than demanding other people conform to me.

@sim
I see them as a demand to conform to someone else’s politics and similarly reject that ham-fisted tactic

@icedquinn @mia Like mine. I reject CWs, I don't do them. I don't think it is polite to expect me to content warn my politics, trauma or anything else like it is something to be ashamed about. I'm stopping mastodon users that force this conformity right there. It doesn't create a safe space or help me with triggers, it is a trigger form itself. Didn't have an issue until they did this.
