    Here I am, hoping that I can someday have a politics-free social media experience. And some of you are on other platforms, sending political people here specifically to talk politics.

    Can we have some other topics besides Linux and the end of the world? Please?!?!

      @LavenderPawprints it's SO tiring to live in panic mode 24/7. This place is supposed to be my escape, but sometimes I find myself wanting an escape from this place and I don't have any other place to go....😩

      @BeAware I get it, I really do.

      I try my best to maintain my little bubble.
      Granted, everyone has the right to post and share what they want, and of course we can always block or ignore the things we don't want to see, but it's really exhausting to try and filter as you go along when 85 percent of what you come across on Fedi just kicks you in the teeth then stomps on you when you're down.

      And, that's to say nothing about the types that will try to shame us because we honestly have emotional needs and boundaries.

      It's not that I don't care at all, but I can't do anything about anything and doomsday focusing isn't going to help me or anyone else if there's no spoons left to give.

      @CWSmith @LavenderPawprints I've gotten filters and it doesn't even help. People use obscure words and it completely skirts boundaries and filters. It's SO annoying.

      Like, I have mental issues, I'm 10000% positive nobody wants me anywhere near politics, so stop shoving it down my throat and telling me that "either you fight for our issues or you're the enemy"...cause I'm almost to the point of deliberately becoming the enemy of all politics here.

      You aren't wrong. The extreme political stance left ward was something I was warned about when I discovered the Fediverse. I was hoping I could keep that sort of stuff out of my feed or at least minimize it. Besides, the idea of sharing to many communities appealed. I didn't want the closed walled garden setup.

      I turn a lot of blind eyes towards the politics. I have to.

      It's like how my Dad is RL... He's always been an absolutist. You either side with him, or your inferior in someway intellectually, morally, or ethically. He's always been that way. Of course it's less a real moral stance and more a blame anyone but himself for how the last 20 years went for him

      @BeAware I mean... I understand the impulse, but for some of us, what you dismiss as "politics" is literally life and death.

      To quote a homeless person during Occupy: "Imagine if you really, REALLY need to pee and the bathroom is blocked by someone who wants to have a conversation about how to have a conversation."

      I rarely post politics here but when I do it's because my actual life is in danger and the scolding is a bad look.

      @BeAware One tool I’ve found that helps is hiding boosts from accounts that frequently boost political stuff, especially stuff my filters don’t catch. Often, it seems those accounts don’t tend to post their own thoughts on political issues as much as boost the thoughts of others. When I find I’m seeing too much politics, I’ll go through a round of boost-hiding, and it helps a lot.
