I went with someone else who had gone to host clubs a few times during their stay in Tokyo. They had a lot in common with the people who worked there, it was a good way for them to practise their Japanese, & they were so different from the normal host club patrons that it may have been a nice change for the hosts.
Personally I felt way too old to be there. also I drink very little alcohol & felt weird about the expectation of buying drinks
@1ksrw Some of the other patrons creeped me out, too. There was one patron who seemed kinda bored & mostly ignored his host, while she tried very hard to engage & entertain him.
Made me want to go over to be engaged & entertained by her myself, except that would've made things even more awkward.
@lookitmychicken yeah i do not drink alcohol at all and dislike being perceived by other people so it seems like the epitome of an experience that i would hate lol. using a host club as japanese conversation practice does seem pretty smart tho
