     @natalie @miscbrains yeah its too big for what i wanted. the smpltrek fits in a messenger bag i can keep it around and doodle. the mega would have just been to feed it samples and like

     actually happy it's emulation-based, another real chip product would have decimated the tiny remaining supply

     @natalie @miscbrains i noticed the open source 2612 emulations don't care about hardware accuracy much. which is interesting that its such a commercial feature to make the instrument sound like shit on purpose.

     @miscbrains @natalie well elektron actually made me hate this less. the digitone locks itself to simple ratios so when you tweak the operators it tends to go between the sweet spots and skip most of the weird murder terror noise areas of FM. you can detune it from there.
     
     i tried to convince dexed to do a similar thing but nobody seems to want to make it easier to program the FM synths :blobcatdunno: i guess everyone is just usin presets

     i haven't messed with opl2 in a while. i'm not super bothered by accuracy so i'm fine with clean FM and more than 2-4 operators.
     
     maybe i should pick that sytrus clone of mine back up. that thing was crazy. (i think theres another foss one called Oxe that has a routing matrix instead of 'algorithms', but it stopped there)
     
     for samplers i'll take a look. i'm waiting impatiently for shortcircuit-xt :youmuhype:

     Couple that with vitalium and you can do some EDM damage.
