@xian I think that LGR looked at a couple of them and they weren't very good for games.
I built a new build using a Chinese board but it's a Pentium 4. I had to adjust some settings to slow it down to make some DOS stuff work correctly. Also a TSR that introduced a delay, otherwise sound effects in DOOM didn't work.

on that topic, idk if industrial boards (those smaller ones) are nice for a build, probably got some limitations or whatever.

@xian actually new-manufactured, my board said 2023 on it somewhere. I got it because it has an ISA slot that I could put a brand new sound card in (Orpheus II LT)
I love how music on it sounds. I'm also glad I splurged for a wavetable daughtercard because MIDI sounds wonderful.

@sun i could opt for a Pentium too honestly, i actually think the old crappy Packard Bell i used to have as a kid is still in my closet at my parents place. Is the board new old stock or actually newly manufactured?

@sun @xian it appeals to the environmentalist in me too. Keeping electronics out of the landfill and giving them new life.

@sun @xian Cathode Ray Dude has been doing a series of videos on "Little Guys", those being normal ass PCs in industrial cases with specific intended applications. Apparently you can snag them affordably on fleabay. The best part is that most of them are designed to be passively cooled so no noisy fans.

@prettygood @xian @sun Be aware they may include lots of weird proprietary stuff just like laptops do. So some features/ports/wifi might not work on open source kernel or works only on old Windows versions etc.
At least that was the case on the "old" around 2010 "thin clients" my old workplace used attached to info screens. (I took one home, but turned out it was literally shit. It was passively cooled, but with power hungry hardware for the performance. Basically an arm shitbox performance with pc power usage).

@susie @xian @prettygood I have fooled around with industrial equipment and it always has something that doesn't work right because it was made for like a tractor or something and not to interface with a voodoo3 or sound card.

@xian @susie @prettygood I recently bought a new ATI Rage XL clone PCI card for 20 dollars on Amazon, which intriguingly says it is good for replacement in a "trailer"
