   The freedom to be able to walk and shop in places without worrying about a shooting is something Malaysians take for granted. I cannot imagine living with that kind of possibility in my life. You know what else we take for granted? The fact that Malaysia is free of most natural disasters like earthquakes and volcanoes and such.

     @Fury Yup yup. I think when we look at what's happening around the world, especially in war-torn areas, I'm so grateful for the simple things in life, such as a roof over my head, medical care and the easy availability of food, and yes, not worrying if a bomb will land on my apartment one day.

     @liztai I take for granted that I have running water and reliable electricity, internet etc etc. It's just so comfortable here. I take for granted that my needs are met and I can work on my research and actually have space for hobbies. I take for granted that I am able to choose my own hours in my working life (within reason). I also take for granted that I am a woman and not a man, imagine having to deal with peers who want to punch you?

     @liztai a tornado just hit Houston and I'm incredibly grateful that I have family here I can stay with while our power's out.

     In the moment, I didn't even have to think twice about this privilege. Meanwhile there are thousands of people who are having to find their way to temporary cooling centers in the city to avoid heat stroke.

     Ditto in the UK. Don't have to worry about guns as almost no-one in the general population owns one.

     Closest I've come to an earthquake was something that felt like a lorry driving past the house and we hardly ever get twisters.
