      one of the odd things with camcorder life is that glass is really just not a thing. the leica is already built in to the body, you don't fuck around with the lens.

      @sun i did not :blobcatpain:

      i had fully intended to buy a cinema rig and try to figure out how to get some jobs with it. then my pay kept not appearing and after about a week i have given up on life and am now back in the poverty mindset.

      @icedquinn I used to own four tv studio cameras, full color, tubes. They gave an amazing 1970s picture.

      @sun neat.

      i have a little cheap camcorder that does 1080i, and a GoPro, although i dislike to use either, but they have their advantages.

      @icedquinn gopros modified to not have fisheye are awesome. you might be able to buy knockoff ones like that without hacking on them now.

      @sun i don't think mine fisheyes? i know there's a thing i can set wide angle or standard. the fisheye might be part of the wide angle.

      BMD pocket cinemas are, uh. masochism cameras. They're pretty much entirely solely designed for kicking out absurd quality image and they shit the bed on everything that isn't that. You even have to buy external autofocus modules if thats something you need :blobcatgooglynotlikethis: and despite being a video-only unit, it has a battery housing like a photo unit, instead of the typical external battery intended to be quickly kicked out that all box video cameras use.

      still, they are absolute goddamn beasts when it comes to the image that comes out. they record to raws or prores. :blobcatsleepless:

      @picofarad i don't know as much about the hardware side. i do know the electronic-only shutters were tried and people didn't like how they caused some light streaks.

      getting data out of the sensor seems to be something about how quickly the bus is actually able to shuttle the pixels out. it gets harder when you're doing 4k60 type shit.

      @icedquinn I was wondering aloud in a text chat the other day about cameras/sensors that can capture the entire sensor at once instead of line by line, and my friend said he has a few of the "three stacked CCD" pro camcorders.

      I'm not sure he understood what i was asking about, so i am unsure if merely having no rolling shutter is the same as the full sensor read at the same time

      anyhow good luck on your contemplations
