@SweetCoffy@grimgreenfo.rest Which app is this? Is it notable enough to be added to the LIST OF SHAME? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_formerly_open-source_or_free_software

SuperDicq (superdicq@minidisc.tokyo)'s status on Tuesday, 30-Apr-2024 23:51:01 JST SuperDicq @puppygirlhornypost@transfem.social @SweetCoffy@grimgreenfo.rest OpenJDK still exists and is GPLv2. OpenSolaris is just simply discontinued, it didn't become nonfree.

SuperDicq (superdicq@minidisc.tokyo)'s status on Wednesday, 01-May-2024 00:02:30 JST SuperDicq @puppygirlhornypost@transfem.social @SweetCoffy@grimgreenfo.rest Really depends on how you look at it.
You could argue that Oracle Solaris != OpenSolaris, even though it contains parts of OpenSolaris. Like it's technically a different project.
But you can't argue that with Redis as it is clearly the same project, but under a nonfree license. In conversation permalink -

Amber (puppygirlhornypost@transfem.social)'s status on Wednesday, 01-May-2024 00:02:32 JST Amber @SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo @SweetCoffy@grimgreenfo.rest Kind of? I mean yes. OpenJDK still exists because the code was licensed under CDDL. The promises sun had to expand that was never delivered. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_(software_platform) I argue that Java did go through open source -> closed source, since OpenJDK split from Oracle's JDKs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenZFS OpenZFS was originally an implementation of ZFS that was released under OpenSolaris. I think that it very much fits the bill considering that OpenSolaris was supposed to be open but oracle took the open versions and made them private again https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oracle_Solaris#Development_release I think that OpenSolaris, OpenZFS, and OpenJDK belong on the list. If Redis belongs on the list when Redis source code is still available and when people are forking the project to recreate stuff I believe that is justification for OpenSolaris, OpenZFS, and OpenJDK to belong on the list. Redis started out by making paid plugins, and enterprise support regarding it despite being open source (until switch of licensing).

While the initial version of OpenJDK is based on Oracle JDK, they are not the same project. In conversation permalink -

SuperDicq (superdicq@minidisc.tokyo)'s status on Wednesday, 01-May-2024 03:59:18 JST SuperDicq @nyovaya@transfem.social @SweetCoffy@grimgreenfo.rest Because they are following a trend in their industry.
The reason why most of them switch to the SSPL/BSL type licenses because they in particular are often utilized by the big "cloud" providers such as AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.
In theory they could make more money this way because this type of license forces these parties in particular to pay up.
But that's a fantasy, what happens in reality is that Amazon and Google will just drop them and start using a fork instead. Meanwhile they have also fucked up their regular userbase by making their software nonfree and they also fuck over distro maintainers that can't implement their software anymore.
All of it in an attempt to make a little bit more money. In conversation permalink -
