   hmm well the ffmpeg devs are pretty solid

   I bet I can use their software to change this stupid file from a variable framerate

   if it wasn’t grossly complex anyway, I’ll have to go find a magic line but search engines are always useless these days

     anyway there are a couple methods of framerate fuckery and they depend on what you actually want to happen to the frames.

     @susie @jamie interlacing is different from variable framerate. i had to run deinterlace stuff on my old JVC camcorder. (i used that when i did the ploopy headphone video.)
     
     thankfully gopros do not require that kind of shitbaggery. the BMD would require a whole different amount of suffering (developing RAWs in to cineform or something) but there are severe advantages to that.

     It could have been interlaced broadcast recording or an older DVD. Those are VFR at times (mix of progressive and interlaced content). The "fix" is to either play them back on proper deinterlacing supporting player or deinterlacing them with ffmpeg. Deinterlacing with 2x framerate (bobbing etc) results in a bigger file, but obviously smoother motion.
     
     Was deinterlacing what chatgpt recommended? Or did it tell you to drop frames or something?

     @icedquinn I just needed it to work, reencoding is fine. The exact method I don’t have the energy to care about. Took only a few seconds anyway.
